Celebrate National Nut Day with Josh Early Candies

Nut aficionados have a reason to rejoice today, for October 22 is National Nut Day! To assist in the celebration, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of the nut varieties that we roast fresh on-site in our Josh Early kitchens.

Almonds are rich in Vitamin E, making them an ideal mid-afternoon snack packed with both antioxidants and protein. After roasting, our Salted Almonds ($6.70) are lightly salted to help balance out the slight bitterness of the nuts.

Cashews are another good source of antioxidants, as well as dietary trace minerals such as copper, iron, and zinc. For those looking for a nut to include in stand-alone snack mix, we sell 13-ounce containers of Salted Cashews ($13.80), but we also sell containers of Unsalted Cashews ($13.80) that would be the perfect ingredient cooking or baking.

Compared to almonds and cashews, macadamia nuts are low in protein but are high in monounsaturated fats. Studies have shown that eating foods rich in monounsaturated fats improves blood cholesterol levels, which can decrease the risk of heart disease, and may benefit insulin levels and blood sugar control, which can be especially helpful for those with Type 2 diabetes. At Josh Early Candies, we roast our Macadamia Nuts ($12.25) and lightly salt them before packaging them in 8.5-ounce containers.

If you like to snack on nuts, then pistachios are definitely one of the healthier options out there. They’re filled with essential nutrients and have a number of health benefits, including helping to control body weight (especially when eating shell-on pistachios) and lowering the risk for heart problems. You can get our roasted California Pistachios ($3.50) in 7.5-ounce containers.

If you’re looking for a little variety on National Nut Day, then rest easy. At Josh Early Candies, we sell 13-ounce containers of Assorted Nuts ($12.90) that are either salted or unsalted. In this mix, you’ll get California almonds, jumbo cashews, macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts, pecans, and English walnuts, so there’s sure to be a different combination of nuts in every handful.
